Absolicon T160 Solar collector awarded with Bertrand Piccard’s ‘Solar Impulse Efficient Solution’ label

  • 2020-06-26

‘Solar Impulse Efficient Solution’ is awarded to companies and technology that protect the environment in a profitable way. Absolicon’s technology for heat extraction for industry and district heating from the sun is now one chosen as one of the efficient solutions for a clean economic growth.

More than half of the world’s energy demand is in the form of heat. Heat is used to warm up our homes and in industrial processes. Today, a large portion of this heat is produced using fossil fuels with high negative environmental impact as a result.

Absolicon’s T160 Solar collector, now awarded the ‘Solar Impulse Efficient Solution’ label, produces heat and steam for industries and district heating directly from the sun, without emissions.

“Many people think of sustainable solutions as a speculative or purely costly investment. Our technology is proven profitable and climate smart at the same time and this is ‘Solar Impulse’ proof of, says Joakim Byström, CEO Absolicon.

Founded by Bertrand Piccard

The ‘Solar Impulse Efficient Solution’ is awarded by the Solar Impulse Foundation. Following the success of the first solar flight around the world, Bertrand Piccard and the Solar Impulse Foundation has launched the second phase of their action: selecting 1000 solutions that can protect the environment in a profitable way, and bringing them to decision makers to help them adopt more ambitious environmental targets and energy policies.

Expert assessment from the evaluation report:

“Absolicon records high optical efficiency and the company differs by using robotized mass production to manufacture its solar collectors in a factory. Whether it be the raw materials (essentially raw materials like sheet metal, reflector, glass, tube) or the technology used, there are no technical barriers to the implementation of this solution.”

Documented effect

The T160 solar collector from Absolicon is already certified according to the European standard “Solar Keymark”.

In tests at the Swiss Institut für Solartechnik (SPF) in Rapperswil, Absolicon’s T160 Solar collector has shown optical efficiency of 76.6%. The highest number ever measured for a small parabolic trough.
